Before you begin

  • Android closed-test build 1000025 on a supported phone, tablet or foldable; Google TV is excluded.
  • Authorized source text, space for the supported ML Kit language pack and an installed offline Android voice for read-aloud. Internet is needed for the first pack download.

Step by step

  1. Choose a language and download its pack

    Android closed-test build 1000025 includes device-local translation profiles. Choose a destination language; the supported ML Kit language pack downloads on first use, which requires an internet connection.

  2. Choose and review a local profile

    Faithful — preserves the original structure.

    Natural context — keeps paragraphs, lists and punctuation together.

    Playful — a light local style for English and Italian.

    Napoletano beta / Barese beta — experimental device-local Italian style profiles. Review every result; they do not claim full dialect coverage.

  3. Edit and approve an exact correction

    Once the pack is installed, the source and translation stay on your device. Choose a profile, review the result and use Edit & approve to save only that exact source, language and profile correction in private on-device translation memory.

  4. Read aloud and stop playback

    Read result sections aloud with an installed offline Android voice. Install a missing offline voice for your language in Android settings.

    Use Stop reading to end playback. NotzUp follows Android display and font-size settings and provides spoken labels for primary screen-reader controls.

  5. Adjust display and touch layout

    The touch interface adapts to phones, tablets and foldables. Google TV is not supported.

    On phones, camera controls stay visible above the result sheet. Tablets and unfolded foldables use a camera/results layout; touch controls adapt to the screen.

Expected result

A reviewed device-local translation, an exact private correction when approved, and optional offline read-aloud.

Privacy and permissions

Recordings, files, searches, scans, OCR, barcode counts and supported local-AI results do not leave the device by default. Only a deliberate online action—Share, Search online, connector authorization or encrypted backup—transmits the selected data or value. Language-pack downloads do not upload the source text.

Troubleshooting

Language pack unavailable

Check ML Kit language support, connectivity for the first download and free device storage. Not every destination language has a supported pack; there is no cloud fallback.

Style or dialect result is unsuitable

Choose Faithful or edit and approve the exact correction. Playful is limited to English and Italian; Napoletano beta and Barese beta are experimental Italian styles, not full dialect translation. Memory applies only to the matching source, language and profile.

No voice or playback will not stop

Install an offline voice for the language in Android settings, then retry. Use Stop reading to end playback; translation and spoken voice support are separate.
